At Thringstone Primary School, we believe some of the most valuable learning happens beyond the classroom. Our Forest School provision gives children opportunities to explore the natural world, develop independence, build confidence and learn through practical experiences.
With extensive school grounds and a dedicated Forest School area, children have opportunities to connect with nature and develop an appreciation of their environment.
Forest School at Thringstone
Forest School is an established part of our curriculum. Every class has a dedicated block of Forest School sessions, ensuring all children experience outdoor learning throughout their time at Thringstone.
Sessions are led by our fully trained Forest School Lead, who plans activities that encourage exploration, creativity, independence and teamwork.
Our developed Forest School area provides a dedicated space for outdoor learning, while our bird hide offers opportunities to observe wildlife and develop an understanding of the natural world.
Learning Outdoors
Forest School provides opportunities for children to learn through exploration, discovery and practical experiences.
Activities may include:
- Exploring natural habitats and observing wildlife.
- Building shelters and developing practical outdoor skills.
- Creating artwork using natural materials.
- Working together to solve problems and overcome challenges.
- Investigating seasonal changes and caring for our environment.
Through these experiences, children develop resilience, communication and problem-solving skills. They learn to take appropriate risks, make decisions and approach new challenges with confidence.
Forest School also complements our wider curriculum, particularly science, geography and sustainability, helping children make meaningful connections between classroom learning and the natural world.

Parents and carers are informed when their child's Forest School sessions are taking place, along with details of the clothing and equipment they will need.
Sessions take place outdoors, so children should come prepared for the weather and ready to explore!
