Inclusion and Support at Thringstone Primary School
At Thringstone, inclusion and support are part of everything we do. Guided by our vision to Believe and Achieve Together, we want every child to feel known, supported and able to succeed.
We believe that high standards and inclusion go hand in hand. Children come to school with different starting points, experiences and needs. Our role is to remove barriers to learning so that all children can take part, achieve well and feel that they belong.
We have high expectations for all children, regardless of their starting point or circumstances.
What inclusion and support mean at Thringstone
We support all children, including:
- children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
- children who are disadvantaged or eligible for pupil premium
- children who are or have been known to social care
- children with social, emotional or mental health needs
- children experiencing challenges with attendance
- any child who needs support at any point in their school journey
We recognise that needs can change over time and support is adapted to meet this.
By getting it right for the children who need the most support, we improve outcomes for all children.
How we support children
All children benefit from:
- strong, high-quality teaching
- clear routines and expectations
- positive relationships with staff
- an ambitious, well-sequenced curriculum
Teachers adapt their teaching so that all children can access learning and succeed.
We focus on identifying needs early, through ongoing assessment, observation and discussion with families, and putting support in place quickly.
Some children may need additional support at times. This may include:
- targeted intervention
- pastoral or wellbeing support
- support with attendance
- additional communication with families
Support is carefully planned and reviewed to check its impact.
A smaller number of children may need more personalised or specialist support. This may include individual plans, adapted approaches or, where needed, we work with external agencies to support children effectively.
Inclusion in practice
Inclusion and support run through all areas of school life:
- Curriculum – designed to be ambitious and accessible for all children
- Early Years – strong foundations through routines, language and relationships
- Wellbeing and pastoral support – helping children feel safe, confident and ready to learn
- Safeguarding – identifying concerns early, particularly for children who may be vulnerable or at risk, and ensuring they receive the right support
We are committed to supporting children within our school community wherever possible.
We want every child to feel that they belong, are understood and can succeed.
Working with families
We work closely with families to support children effectively. We believe that early communication is key and encourage parents and carers to speak to us if they have any concerns.
We will listen, work with you and make sure the right support is in place.
Who to speak to
Your child’s class teacher is the first point of contact.
Depending on the need, support may also involve:
- the SENDCo
- safeguarding or pastoral leaders
- senior leaders
If you are unsure who to contact, please speak to the school office and we will guide you.
