Safeguarding

Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility

At Thringstone Primary School, safeguarding and child protection are central to everything we do. We are committed to creating a school where all children feel safe, valued and supported — and where staff, families and pupils work together to protect their wellbeing.

We follow all national and local guidance, including:

Safeguarding is the responsibility of every adult in school, and we expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to share that commitment.

What safeguarding looks like at Thringstone

While our main aim is to provide a rich and enjoyable education, we know that children thrive best when they feel safe. That’s why we are proactive and thorough in our approach to safeguarding.

We aim to:

  • Create a culture where children feel listened to, secure and respected

  • Recognise signs and symptoms of harm or neglect

  • Respond quickly and effectively to concerns

  • Support vulnerable pupils and families

  • Work with external agencies to protect children

  • Use the curriculum to help children build awareness, confidence and life skills

Thringstone Primary is also part of Operation Encompass, a joint initiative with Leicestershire Police that ensures school is informed quickly about any domestic incidents that may affect a child’s wellbeing.

If a child transfers to another school, we make sure safeguarding information is passed on confidentially and securely.

Prevent Duty and protecting against radicalisation

At Thringstone Primary School, we fully support the Government’s Prevent Strategy and follow the guidance outlined in The Prevent Duty document. Preventing radicalisation and extremism forms a key part of our safeguarding approach and is embedded within our Safeguarding Policy.

All staff receive annual training on the Prevent Strategy, which includes awareness of Channel - a programme focused on providing early support to individuals who may be vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism.

Members of the public can access advice and trusted resources to help protect children from radicalisation, build resilience to extremism, and promote shared values through the Government website Educate Against Hate.
