Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility
At Thringstone Primary School, safeguarding and child protection are central to everything we do. We are committed to creating a school where all children feel safe, valued and supported — and where staff, families and pupils work together to protect their wellbeing.
We follow all national and local guidance, including:
Safeguarding is the responsibility of every adult in school, and we expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to share that commitment.

What safeguarding looks like at Thringstone
While our main aim is to provide a rich and enjoyable education, we know that children thrive best when they feel safe. That’s why we are proactive and thorough in our approach to safeguarding.
We aim to:
-
Create a culture where children feel listened to, secure and respected
-
Recognise signs and symptoms of harm or neglect
-
Respond quickly and effectively to concerns
-
Support vulnerable pupils and families
-
Work with external agencies to protect children
-
Use the curriculum to help children build awareness, confidence and life skills
Thringstone Primary is also part of Operation Encompass, a joint initiative with Leicestershire Police that ensures school is informed quickly about any domestic incidents that may affect a child’s wellbeing.
If a child transfers to another school, we make sure safeguarding information is passed on confidentially and securely.
Prevent Duty and protecting against radicalisation
As part of our statutory safeguarding duties, we fully support the government’s Prevent Strategy. This means we are alert to the risk of radicalisation and work to build resilience in our children through:
-
A curriculum rooted in British Values, diversity and inclusion
-
A respectful school culture where different views can be discussed safely
-
Teaching children how to think critically and make informed choices
-
Online safety education and digital citizenship
-
Staff training to identify signs and refer concerns appropriately
The Prevent Lead in school is Mr David Chapple.
We also support the Channel programme, which helps identify and protect individuals who may be vulnerable to being drawn into extremism.
