Attendance

At Thringstone Primary School, we believe that every day in school matters. Regular attendance helps children feel settled, build friendships and keep up with their learning.

Our aim is for every child to attend school every day, and we will work with families to make this possible. We work closely with families to remove any barriers to attendance so that all children can make the most of their time in school and achieve their full potential.

Good attendance is an important part of supporting every child to succeed and sits within our wider approach to inclusion.

Our approach is based on national guidance, including Working Together to Improve School Attendance, and a strong partnership between school and families.

Working with Families

If your child is finding it difficult to attend school, please speak with us as early as possible. In most cases, early conversations help us understand what is happening and allow us to put the right support in place.

We monitor attendance regularly and carefully and may contact families if we notice patterns of absence. Our focus is always on working together to support improvement.

Leave of Absence During Term Time

Government guidance states that leave of absence during term time should only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.

Any request for leave must be made in advance and will be considered by the Headteacher on an individual basis, in line with the school’s Attendance Policy.

If leave is taken without authorisation, the school is required to follow national guidance and may refer the matter to the Local Authority.

Requesting Leave

If you need to request leave during term time, please complete a Leave of Absence Request Form and provide the reason for your request.

Each request will be considered individually and you will be informed whether the leave has been authorised.

Full details of the school’s attendance procedures and support systems can be found in the Attendance Policy, available on the Policies page of the website.
