Experiences Beyond the Classroom
At Thringstone Primary School, we believe some of the most powerful learning happens beyond the classroom. Whether it is exploring a new place, taking part in a club or trying something for the first time, these experiences help children grow in confidence and create lasting memories.
Trips & Visits
Every class takes part in trips and visits that are carefully linked to their learning. These may include visits to local museums, outdoor spaces and places of cultural interest.
We also make the most of our local area. For example, children learn about local history through visits to the Charles Booth Centre, helping them develop a strong sense of place and community.
We also welcome visitors into school so children can learn directly from people with specialist knowledge. These opportunities bring learning to life and help children make meaningful connections.
Residential Visits
From Year 4 onwards, children are offered the opportunity to take part in residential visits. These are a valued and memorable part of school life and play an important role in developing confidence, independence and resilience.
Residentials give children the chance to build friendships, take on new challenges and experience learning in a completely different way. For many, these trips become a highlight of their time at primary school.
Residential opportunities may include:
- Beaumanor Hall (Leicestershire)
- Aylmerton Field Study Centre (Norfolk)
- Walesby Forest (Nottinghamshire)
- Staunton Bowers (Staffordshire)
Wider Opportunities
Through our local school partnerships (Thringstone Primary School - Working With Other Schools), children benefit from a range of shared experiences across the year.
Children meet with four other local schools to take part in shared events, building confidence, collaboration and a sense of belonging within a wider community.
These include:
- Teddy Bear Picnic (Foundation Stage)
- Yew Tree Trail (Year 1)
- STEM Project (Year 2)
- Vocalease (Year 3)
- Life Skills Day (Year 4)
- Arts Festival (Year 5)
- Transition Fun Day (Year 6)
Clubs
We offer a wide range of clubs and opportunities beyond the school day, giving children the chance to explore their interests, stay active and be part of a team.
Our after-school clubs include activities such as cricket and handball, alongside creative and enrichment clubs including origami, music champions, archery and coding.
Children also have the opportunity to represent the school in a variety of sporting competitions, including football, cricket, boccia and dodgeball. These experiences build confidence, teamwork and a sense of pride in representing our school.
Sport is a key part of daily life at Thringstone. Our MUGA is used every day, offering activities such as football, hockey and multi-sports sessions for younger children.
These opportunities build confidence, develop resilience and help children feel proud to be part of our school community, reflecting our core values of Belief, Respect, Kindness, Resilience and Teamwork.
