Thringstone Primary School

The teacher in Year 6– Dolphins is Mrs Hallam. The children are also supported by Miss Jones.

At Thringstone we follow a topic and creative based curriculum, using year group objectives from the National Curriculum.  Throughout the year topics are varied to meet the objectives and maximise children’s interest and learning.

We have an open door policy where parents are welcome in school, and this helps forge close links with home.

We expect all children to read regularly at home each week and learn their number bonds and times tables. We also encourage children to carry out weekly homework where they apply their learning, understanding and skills.

Important things your child should have in school:
• A drinks bottle
• Change of shoes for inside school – eg plimsolls
• A PE bag consisting of any plain T-shirt, a pair of shorts, plimsolls
• A bag to carry a reading record and books
• Appropriate clothing for the weather

Please ensure all your child’s things are named as a lot of school clothing is the same.

We have had an incredibly busy term so far in our Dolphins class, expanding our knowledge, and drawing on our prior learning to support us. Each Wednesday we continue to build on our Djembe skills, learning various rhythms and songs as well as learning to play the Dundun drums. We have enjoyed experimenting with tones, tints and shades to create beautiful African landscape paintings which are displayed proudly in our classroom.

Our Science topics this term have allowed us to explore the areas of electricity and light. We even investigated whether fruit and vegetables can act as batteries! On the recent sunny days, we had fun observing the size and shape of our shadows in the playground at various points in the day. We enjoy reading in Dolphins, both at home and at school and have had the pleasure of Rufus the Reading Bear joining us for several weeks. In our Computing lessons we have learnt how to create and use sound effects to enhance a script. Our Design and Technology sessions are currently seeing us designing and creating models of playground structures for our ideal children’s playground.
