Attendance and Leave of Absence

At Thringstone Primary School, we believe that every day in school matters. Regular attendance helps children feel settled, build friendships and keep up with their learning. Our aim is for every child to attend school every day so that they can make the most of their time here and achieve their full potential.

We work closely with families to promote good attendance and to support children where there may be barriers to coming to school. Our approach follows the Department for Education guidance Working Together to Improve School Attendance, which places a strong emphasis on schools and families working in partnership.

Working with Families

If your child is finding it difficult to attend school, please speak with us as early as possible. In most cases, talking things through early helps us understand what is happening and allows us to put the right support in place.

We monitor attendance regularly and may contact families if we notice patterns of absence so that we can work together to support improvement.

Leave of Absence During Term Time

Government guidance states that leave of absence during term time should only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.

Any request for leave must be made in advance and will be considered by the Headteacher on an individual basis in line with the school’s Attendance Policy.

If leave is taken without authorisation, the school may refer the matter to the Local Authority, who may take further action in line with national attendance regulations.

Requesting Leave

If you need to request leave during term time, please complete a Leave of Absence Request Form and provide the reason for the request.

Each request will be considered individually and you will be informed whether the leave has been authorised.

Attendance Policy

Full details of the school’s attendance procedures and support systems can be found in the Attendance Policy, available on the Policies page of the website.
